NCOP & SALGA Local Government Week 2018

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in partnership with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) hosted the 6th Local Government Week from 8 to 10 May 2018 at Parliament in Cape Town. The programme provided an opportunity for national reflection on issues affecting local government.

Parliamentarians, SALGA leadership, the Presidency, Cabinet Ministers and MECs, the Land Bank, Statistics South Africa, the Fiscal Finance Commission, independent analysts and other relevant strategic entities, including the GGLN, engaged around a number of topics. These included:

  • Mainstreaming integrated and sustainable land use
  • Municipal infrastructure: Integrated spatial planning and the provision of services (human settlements, energy, water and sanitation)
  • The municipal support and intervention framework
  • Intergovernmental fiscal relations review: Fiscal allocation for the developmental local government
