VIDEO CLIP: Engaging Government Differently – a Wattville Social Audit Film

Planact shares a short film on a collaborative social audit on sanitation conducted in Wattville, Benoni.

The film tells the story of a collaborative effort to improve sanitation in Wattville, Benoni, Ekurhuleni Municipality across three communities, namely, Home Seekers, Harry Gwala and Emlotheni. Sanitation in these informal settlements is an outsourced service focused on the delivery and maintenance of portable toilets.

The work done by the communities, Planact, the Social Audit Network, the International Budget Partnership South Africa, and the Ekurhuleni Local Municipality led to faulty portable toilets being replaced, improved relationships between government and residents, and a commitment to a collaborative approach to social accountability.
