Afesis Corplan:

Afesis-corplan

Afesis-corplan is a non-governmental organisation that has contributed to community-driven development and good local governance in the Border-Kei (Amathole) region of the Eastern Cape since 1992. Registered as a not-for-profit Section 21 Company, Afesis-corplan operates under the governance of a Board of Directors comprised of prominent members of the public and private sector.

      
BESG:

Built Environment Support Group (BESG)

BESG exists to support the poor and vulnerable to access resources and increasingly gain control over their lives and destinies, through the promotion of sustainable livelihoods and habitable environments, achieving basic socio-economic rights and capacitating local government. BESG has two core programmes that support its mission, to promote sustainable human settlements and participatory democracy.

      
Centre for Policy Studies:

Centre for Policy Studies (CPS)

The Centre for Policy Studies is an independent policy research institution that produces original and thought-provoking research on South Africa's, and the rest of Africa's policies, governance and democratisation challenges. Originally established 15 years ago, as part of the Business School of the University of the Witwatersrand in 1987, CPS’s work still enjoys wide recognition among foreign scholars and research institutions.

Centre for Public Participation (CPP)

The CPP's vision driving its programme planning and implementation is of an informed and empowered civil society engaging actively with accessible and accountable structures and processes of government, to develop and implement responsive policies that improve people's quality of life.

      
Community Law Centre :

Community Law Centre (CLC)

The Local Government Project of the Community Law Centre assists local government to give effect to its constitutional mandate of developmental local government through research, advice, training and advocacy. You can download local government papers, submissions, manuals and other resources on local government from our website.

      
Democracy Development Programme:

Democracy Development Programme (DDP)

The DDP was initiated in 1993 as a partner project of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany. For the last 10 years it has been a non-partisan non-profit organisation, supporting capacity building on governance and civil society levels to ensure that both are empowered for meaningful participation in South Africa's social transformation.

      
EISA:

Electoral Institute of South Africa (EISA)

EISA is a not for profit section 21 company, established in 1996, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Its mission is to strengthen electoral processes, good governance, human rights and democratic values through research, capacity building, advocacy and other targeted interventions. The organisation services governments, electoral commissions, political parties, civil society organisations and other institutions operating in the democracy and governance fields throughout Africa.

      
Fair Share:

Fair Share

Fair Share is a unit of the School of Government, at the University of the Western Cape. Within the School of Government’s broad vision of fostering democratic and effective governance, Fair Share, works primarily within communities to assist civil society organisations to participate in municipal governance. The focus of our work is to strengthen the capacity of communities to participate effectively in municipal planning and budgeting processes.

      
FCR:

Foundation for Contemporary Research (FCR)

FCR contributes to sustainable poverty alleviation interventions by facilitation of good governance and municipal-community partnership processes.  We do this through integrated research, community empowerment and advocacy within a sustainable livelihoods framework. FCR’s programme work is organised across two programme areas, namely: Participatory Democracy (Good Governance) and Developmental Partnerships (Municipal-Community Partnerships).

      
Idasa:

Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA)

Idasa is an independent public interest organisation committed to promoting sustainable democracy based on active citizenship, democratic institutions, and social justice. It is a registered Section 21 company in South Africa, has a functioning Board of Directors, and employs Price Waterhouse Coopers as its company auditors. IDASA is a nationally recognised public interest organisation in South Africa. It maintains international links with many similar organisations through the world movement for democracy.

      
Isandla Institute:

Isandla Institute

Isandla Institute's purpose is to help foster just, equitable and democratic urban settlements. The core development challenge Isandla aims to address relates to urban poverty and socio-economic marginalisation resulting from systemic inequality, racism and undeveloped democratic citizenship. More specifically, we see our role as helping to strengthen the intellectual and institutional capabilities of the developmental (local) state in this regard. Our core programmatic areas of work are: land and planning; culture and urban regeneration; HIV/AIDS; local government (both as a separate programmatic focus and as an integral part of all of our work).

      
PCRD:

Project for Conflict Resolution and Development (PCRD)

The PCRD is a development organisation working primarily in the Eastern Cape Province, that researches, designs, trains and facilitates processes that enable disadvantaged  and/or at risk communities and organisations to positively deal with conflict and transformation.  The PCRD's  Local Government Programme focuses on the areas of increasing and improving the levels of public participation and accountability in municipalities.

      
Plan Act:

Planact

Planact is a non-governmental development organisation working mainly in the urban areas of Gauteng. The organisation is committed to local development for the poor within an intergrated framework. Planact aim for strategic interventions in the areas of local government transformation, and community development that can result in social upliftment. This they do through networking with like-minded organisations, training, technical advice and assistance, research and advocacy at policy levels.

      
TCOE:

Trust for Community Outreach and Education (TCOE)

TCOE is a national organisation operating in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Limpopo Provinces. The focus of the organisation's work is land rights, land access and land use. The work and interventions of the organisation are centred around three pillars: Land and agrarian reform, local government and food sovereignty. We facilitate self-organisation and build the membership organisation of small farmers and producers. TCOE also helps create Restitution Forums and Land Rights Committees.
