13. Community Experiences of Integrated Development Planning
Planact will be hosting a learning network event to share community experiences on Integrated Development Planning (IDP) processes on 11 August 2007.
The objective of the event is to enable community leaders to effectively engage and share their experiences of the IDP during the annual review process. In addition, we hope that participants will be empowered to monitor the implementation and to critically evaluate the IDP process.
Planact has invited representatives from the following informal settlements: Vosloorus, Sol Plaatjies, Muldersdrift, Protea South, Zevensfontein and Ivory Park. While Planact has facilitated individual IDP training workshops with the respective communities, this workshop intends to bring members of the different communities together to share experiences of the IDP processes, including best practices in terms of ensuring that community needs are effectively identified and reflected in the IDP processes, and that communities are able to effectively monitor whether services are delivered that are reflected in the IDP. In addition, we hope that by bringing together community leaders and public representatives (ward councilors) we will be narrowing the communication gap which often leads to mistrust and thereby improving relations between the two groups.
